Dear Stand for Africa Supporter,

This summer was a busy one for us here at Stand for Africa. As recent media coverage increases on the awareness of HIV/AIDS here in America, it is important that we do not forget the tremendous impact this epidemic has had on countries on the continent of Africa. During the month of July we had the opportunity to visit four organizations, one in Tanzania, and three in Swaziland.

While in Tanzania we were hosted by Lazaro Nyalandu who is a leading Member of Parliament. He gave us a personal tour with an overview of the HIV/AIDS situation in Tanzania. The World Health Organization reports that approximately 9% (1.6 million people) of the adult population was affected by HIV/AIDS. The report also states “Most of the disease burden in Tanzania is the result of preventable diseases: communicable diseases—HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis; reproductive disorders; childhood disorders—over 75% of under-five deaths are attributable to pneumonia, diarrhea, measles and malnutrition; non-communicable diseases, including diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.”

We were able to meet organizations such as Touch Tanzania, which is a revolutionary, highly effective umbrella organization that operate several programs, in addition to assisting other organizations. One of the collaborations they are currently engaged with is to help bring safe and clean drinking water to communities in need. It is proven that 90% of all diseases in tropical Africa are water-borne, inflicting heavy casualties among children, elderly and women. In certain parts of rural Tanzania, it is estimated that women and children spend over half of their day in search of water.

Over 1,000 communities have been identified as needing safe and clean drinking water. A small contribution of $5,000 will help an individual village supply drinking water for approximately 15,000 people in families, schools, health centers, and other community organizations. Please make a contribution, no matter what amount. It will help us provide the infrastructure that is needed in order to build a better life for our brothers and sisters in Africa. During the winter season we will be traveling to Africa to partner with more organizations to change the lives of people. We need your help and support. Please remember:

“No act of kindness, no matter how big or small, is ever wasted.”

We thank you for your continued partnership as together, we
Stand for Africa.

Most Sincerely,
